The Importance Of Building Self-Trust After Going Through The Reiki Attunement

build self trust reiki

Proper guidance leads to self-trust, and self-trust enables an enthusiast to become a confident Reiki practitioner.

I’ve been practicing and teaching Reiki for more than 15 years. During this time, I have seen many people come and go. One of the most common reasons for giving up is information overload and focusing on the wrong things.

Early enthusiasm fades out pretty quickly. Add to that the excitement of trying new and appealing techniques, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Why?

Because distractions have no place in a beginner’s journey. Building momentum and seeing slow but steady results is crucial in the early stages.

Instead of getting too excited about what’s out there, I believe it’s better to master the fundamentals first and trust the process.

Being curious about what Reiki has to offer is a beautiful thing, but it has to come in moderation. I would go as far as putting aside this desire at first. Otherwise, the danger is that research will substitute the practice, and this approach leads nowhere. I know it sounds obvious now, but there are too many people getting dragged into this, and it’s important to be aware of it.

Reiki Is A Journey Not A Sprint

I always say that Reiki is more than just a quick fix. It’s a path to self-development and spiritual growth.

It’s a fantastic journey, but it takes time, practice, and a propper, healthy start.

I’ve struggled with this myself, and I have seen many people facing the same barriers. There are a few commonalities that I believe can make the difference between being disappointed, giving up, and practicing Reiki with joy and confidence. They just have to be addressed at the right time.

The 3 Easy To Apply Strategies For Building Self-Trust

1. Focus on the essential elements before trying new and exciting things.

Reiki is a neverending, personal story that becomes better with time.

Even after so many years of practicing on myself and others, I’m still amazed at how many nuances Reiki has to offer. These are very well hidden, usually in the simplest methods.

For example, practicing exclusively the hands-on technique can bring significant benefits. The legacy of Hawayo Takata and Chujiro Hayashi, two of the great Reiki Masters, is based entirely on this method.

Reiki symbols are the jewels of therapy but not the practice itself.

Everyone is attracted to them, and I admit, they fascinate me as well.
There is no harm in bringing symbols to the table. Still, one has to be careful not to compromise the practice by becoming confused. This doesn’t happen because symbols don’t work, but it’s usually the result of incomplete information.

Therefore, in Reiki, the most basic techniques have a lot of power. There is no need to add more, so don’t make this idea a distraction.

Having this mindset in the early stages will save you from a lot of frustration.

2. Build self-trust by celebrating small wins.

Easier said than done, right?

Actually, it’s not that difficult. The simplicity of this process makes this approach almost non-existing in the world of Reiki. The key is to trust the process and focus on each session rather than individual results.

Reiki is not a quick-fix solution, and it’s rare to see results overnight.

That’s normal.

But, not knowing this from the very beginning, leads to disappointment. It’s an unofficial, known fact. Unfortunately, it’s not addressed enough to combat the issue.

Results take time, and to see results, the practice has to be improved while gaining more experience. Knowing this from the very beginning helps.

To measure success, in this case, all that’s needed is to be happy and thankful after each completed session. That’s the goal, and it’s easy to achieve.

No big expectations.

Show up and do the work. Even set a timer if it helps.

This approach can’t disappoint. We all have 24h in a day and can find 30 minutes or so to practice Reiki. More importantly, it’s a process that builds the trust and momentum needed in the very beginning.

3. How do I know if what I’m doing is the right thing?

I have experienced this feeling many times.

I often found myself procrastinating because I wasn’t sure if what I was doing was right.

That’s why it’s important to focus on one thing at a time and get comfortable with it. The outcome is not binary in Reiki. It’s not a right or wrong science. Plus, results take time.

There are many ways to find validation.

  • Focusing on the fundamentals is always the best strategy;
  • Another is to ask a Reiki Master for advice, but this option can often be out of reach;
  • Doing research and trying whatever fills the gap is also one way to go;

Whatever the choice, it leads back to self-trust and why the previous 2 points are so important.
