Crown chakra is the 7th and last primary energy center, located on top of our head.
Commonly known as the thousand-petaled lotus, the crown chakra is where we manifest pure divine consciousness.
Its influence goes even further, representing a crucial element in our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
It’s where our physical body connects with the high-vibrational realms.
What Is The Crown Chakra And Why Does It Matter
The crown chakra is the 7th primary chakra. Its Sanskrit name, Sahasrara, translates as the “thousand-petal lotus.”
The crown chakra represents the channeling of pure energy and reaching divine consciousness.
You may also read about it in books and manuals under several other names:
1000 Petal Lotus
The crown chakra is often represented by one thousand white and violet petals. This is a metaphor for the number of spiritual stages that one must complete to reach true enlightenment.
Divine Consciousness Chakra
This describes its ability to channel pure, high-vibrational energies. A healthy connection with the Divine consciousness will aid your spiritual growth process.
Due to its enormous potential to provide a whole new perspective on life, Sahasrara is also known as the higher-self chakra. This is regarded to be the last significant “checkpoint” one must pass to channel Divine wisdom.
From this point on, the inner-self becomes united with the higher-self, creating a perfect, harmonious unity that leads to spiritual enlightenment.
You may also find it in various cultures with similar importance but under different names:
It’s the gateway through which God’s Holy Spirit enters. Saints are frequently shown with halos around their heads, which symbolize enlightenment and Divine wisdom.
Here, the crown chakra is where you start channeling blessings and sacred information. The kippah somehow resembles this energy center. Jewish people wear it on top of their heads as a sign of respect to the divine teachings.
The crown of the head represents the area from where visionary dreams and divine messages are channeled. This led to the creation of the Islamic religion itself through the help of Archangels, including Archangel Gabriel.
And … the list does go on.
The takeaway is that in most religions, the area above our head serves as the main connection between the spiritual and physical planes of existence.
Where Is The Crown Chakra Located
The crown chakra is located on top of your head, with its focal point in the vertex region of the skull.
Considering the intricate structure of this energy center, a portion of it extends outside the body at the upper part of the head when activated.
It’s a self-sufficient energy center and has no projection.
Crown Chakra Symbols
Crown chakra is the coordinator of all the chakras. It represents the main conductor of the universal life force energy through the body.
It’s usually depicted as having the OM (AUM) symbol in the center of a circle, surrounded by 1000 white and violet petals.
The presence of the OM symbol signifies the divine universal concept that manifests here, on Earth. Occasionally, you may find it as a beautiful violet circle contained inside of a larger white one.
The Relationship Between Kundalini, The Soul And The Higher-Self
Throughout the years, I’ve witnessed several debates on whether there are additional energy centers past the crown chakra.
The short answer: Yes! There are.
At least three energy centers sit above the crown chakra and facilitate the connection with the Divine Self. The first one is the Soul Star chakra.
If we look at it from this perspective, it means that Sahasrara is only the beginning when it comes to true spiritual awakening.
If the root chakra is the “seat” of Kundalini, then the crown chakra is the seat of the higher-self or superior consciousness.
Still, let’s consider the crown chakra the “pinnacle” of spiritual ascension for now.
Within the structure of the human body, we have the following three main spiritual elements:
The Kundalini energy – represents the inner-self and needs to ascend through the gateways of life (chakras) to evolve from a spiritual perspective. This is also the so-called “spirit” that reincarnates throughout the ages.
The soul – is the divine spark that contains all the beneficial energies and information needed for this life. Here’s how to revive your soul with Reiki.
The higher-self – represents our connection with the universal energy and the divine consciousness.
Why is this important, and what’s needed to raise the Kundalini energy?
When the Kundalini energy reaches the crown chakra and maintains this level, it means that it engulfed and transcended all the negative thoughts, imbalances, and residual energies.
A perfect unity between the inner-self, the soul, and the higher-self takes place. Additionally, it means that you exist, think, and breathe while constantly being connected to the divine consciousness.
What Is Crown Chakra Awakening
When the Kundalini reaches the crown chakra, it spreads like a fountain of energy and love towards everything around you.
Attachments, worries, and suffering will diminish. You’ll begin to see life as a process of harmonizing the inner-self, the soul, and the higher-self in relationship with the exterior world. Your manifestation will be through the flow of universal energy and divine wisdom.
Each of us has the potential to reach such a level through knowledge and training. Still, most don’t even consider it.
We are not here merely to serve the material world but to become a link between the physical and spiritual realms.
The crown chakra is the imperial seat of wisdom and Divine consciousness that can help us lead a more fulfilling, honest and spiritually enlightened life.
What Is The Crown Chakra Responsible For
At The Physical Level
The crown chakra supports the brain’s health by:
- Maintaining the mental-physical balance;
- Engaging the cognitive function;
- Promoting focus and the ability to evaluate;
The crown chakra also supports the healthy function and distribution of the main brain hormones:
- Dopamine – the hormone responsible for pleasure;
- Serotonin – the hormone that regulates happiness, anxiety and governs our overall mood;
- Oxytocin – which allows us to feel love, affection, and care for others;
- Endorphins – help relieve pain and boost the feeling of happiness;
Still, the pituitary gland is perhaps the most essential physical component that the crown chakra governs.
This gland is strongly linked to the hormones mentioned above. In fact, the pituitary gland is one of the physical elements that helps produce endorphins and oxytocin. In turn, dopamine and serotonin stimulate the pituitary gland, which then produces oxytocin and endorphins.
Additionally, the pituitary gland helps generate growth hormones and provides the feeling of overall well-being.
So, as you can see, everything is interconnected at this level, and the pituitary gland plays a crucial role in our health.
At The Emotional And Energetic Levels
As the third-eye chakra connects to knowledge, the crown chakra connects to wisdom.
Through the crown chakra, you may access true spiritual wisdom rather than the one described by others.
Wisdom goes hand in hand with patience. That’s why understanding and practicing patience is one of the crown chakra’s lesser-known attributes.
“Patience is a virtue.” – a quote I totally agree with.
Another vital feature is channeling inspiration. For example, you might wonder how an author has the ability to put such great stories into the world.
Truth be told, some books result from pure inspiration, personal experience, or both.
When using inspiration, you are not entirely aware of what you are actually connecting to. It’s a certain vibrational level from where you receive that information.
Even “the King” said it:
Your job isn’t to find these ideas but to recognize them when they show up.
Once you reach the right vibration level, the crown chakra enables you to channel that energy and information. Sahasrara is, in fact, the primary conductor of the universal life force energy. It allows us to use this flow to improve our physical and emotional health and manifest our true potential into the world.
The crown chakra can also help in meditation. For example, when you visualize yourself in a place close to your heart, you’re actually using the power of your chakras, mostly the crown chakra.
That’s why you can achieve various spiritual experiences, such as the OBE (out-of-body experience) only if you have a healthy crown chakra.
NOTE: Don’t try the out-of-body experience randomly. This is a serious endeavor, and you should only perform it under special guidance, in the presence of an experienced and properly trained teacher.
How To Balance Your Crown Chakra
Why Do Blockages Occur At The Crown Chakra Level
First of all, let’s see why the crown chakra might not work properly.
One main reason that can block the crown chakra is a poor understanding of your connection with Divinity and the people around you. Because Divinity manifests through people, the way you interact with them matters.
This has nothing to do with religion. That’s a personal choice, and everyone is free to choose the path they resonate with the most. But failing to understand that there’s a primordial energy source and ignoring its physical presence will eventually bring imbalances at the crown chakra level.
The feeling of being abandoned and lost are symptoms of an unbalanced crown chakra too. In turn, this can lead to a lack of trust and an inability to understand the events that unfold within your life.
Having no faith in yourself, the people you interact with, and Divinity can slowly deteriorate your energetic connection with the crown chakra.
NOTE: Not knowing and refusing to understand are two different matters. There are many things we don’t know. The willingness to learn and explore will reveal options that will help you further understand your surroundings.
Crown Chakra Healing
Any type of meditation that involves channeling the universal life force energy through the body stimulates the activation of the crown chakra. This also includes breathing exercises that help integrate nature’s energy into our bodies. Even spending time outdoors or sitting next to a window where natural sunlight can be absorbed will help.
Praying and fasting facilitate its opening as well. When praying, we access higher-vibrational planes of existence while less food will provide the necessary nutrients without obstructing the energy flow.
NOTE: As always, this is not medical advice. Always consult with a doctor before beginning any type of fasting or other health regimes.
Reiki is one of the best ways to balance the crown chakra. All you have to do is activate your palms and place them over your head for 10 minutes each day. This will help cleanse the crown chakra and gradually activate it.
Exposing yourself to high-vibrational music and mantras can have a significant contribution. Om Mani Padme Hum and AUM is the mantra that resonates the most with the crown chakra.
Crown Chakra Crystals
Here are some of the best crystals that work well to cleanse and activate the crown chakra.
- Clear quartz;
- Lemurian quartz;
- Natural opaline (be aware that most opaline on the market is artificially made or treated);
- Rainbow moonstone;
- White Jade;
Take one crystal and hold it on top of your head, either with both hands or in your dominant hand. Visualize how a bright white light engulfs your crown chakra. You can do this while standing, sitting, or lying down.
Always make sure to cleanse and activate your crystals before using them. You can do so with Reiki, smudge them with incense, or simply wash them with lukewarm water.
If you choose to use Reiki, activate your palms by rubbing them against each other before placing them on top of your head. If you have access to Reiki symbols, feel free to add them to your crystals for an enhanced effect.
Crown Chakra Oils
The crown chakra responds well to the following essential oils:
Remember that some of these fragrances can feel a little strong. So always choose something that you resonate with and never force yourself to use something that doesn’t feel right. The whole idea is to relax and enhance your connection to the universal energy.
4 Benefits Of Having A Healthy Crown Chakra
1 – One of the main benefits of having a healthy crown chakra is enjoying an enhanced flow of universal life force energy. In addition, this also facilitates access to higher vibrational entities.
So what does this mean?
Higher vibrational planes of existence include more than just beneficial energies and information but also spirit guides, angels, archangels, and various such entities. When channeling the universal energy, you also begin to receive the necessary guidance in your daily life and spiritual journey.
As a result, your intuition will grow stronger and more apparent. This allows you to develop a “sixth sense” while making important decisions or engaging in new activities.
2 – Another benefit of having an opened crown chakra is to feel good about yourself in your relationship with the world around you. Being connected to both the physical and the spiritual worlds will become a channel that allows the light to manifest here, on Earth.
3 – You’ll also be more accepting of what others are saying, and you won’t be judging their actions as much. This can make life feel less complicated, especially in terms of negative relationships.
4 – A balanced crown chakra may help you become more interested in various spiritual or esoteric practices as well as openly communicate these interests. These can range from philosophy, psychology, and theology, to astronomy and even astrology.
Can You Experience An Overactive Crown Chakra
An overactive crown chakra behaves similar to the third eye chakra.
There are two main symptoms to look for:
- You begin to question your connection with both the physical and spiritual planes. Your sense of reality is altered, which means you find it difficult to ground and interact with others. Everything you see or hear will focus on higher vibrational fields without regard for the fact that you have a physical experience here on Earth. I like to call this feeling “drunk with light.”
- You may become overly charged with energy and display haughty behavior when the crown chakra is overactive. You might begin to feel superior to others and believe that you have all the answers. This is where a huge ego settles in, and it no longer matters what others think or feel. It’s when you have to pay close attention to your behavior and improve the situation. With time, this can have negative implications on both mental and emotional bodies.
What Is The Relationship Between The Third Eye And The Crown Chakra
Our body represents an entire universe, a unity between physical, energetic, and spiritual elements. While we can describe each part individually, each person is a whole. Everything is interconnected, and nothing exists at random.
Therefore, knowing that the crown chakra is the main link between the physical and spiritual planes of existence, it also acts as the coordinator for the rest of the 6 chakras.
This means that the crown chakra has the power to influence all of them. Therefore, the healthier it is, the better the rest of the body functions.
Once we heal and manifest gratitude, compassion, and forgiveness, the crown chakra blossoms, and with it, the rest will follow.
Yet, it’s good to know that a special connection exists between the crown and third eye chakras. That’s because they both coordinate the brain, even though they do it in their own way.
Once activated, they will both influence each other and “collaborate” to help raise your overall vibration. When this happens, it becomes increasingly more difficult to disturb the balance at all levels.
Remember that both the crown and third-eye chakras:
- Enable you to manifest wisdom, intelligence, and strong intuition;
- Are responsible for the proper function of the pineal and pituitary glands;
- Relate to spiritual awakening;
Therefore, when you focus your attention on healing these two chakras, remember that they need to work together for you to benefit from their true potential.
